The Ogglebogs Short Story & Audiobook Series: Episode 8 - An Ogglebog Zoo Day
Coco wants to go on an adventure. A trip to the zoo. What kind of funny creatures will they find at the zoo?
An Ogglebog Zoo Day
“Shall we have an adventure today?” asked Coco.
“Oh yes, we all love adventures!” said Oddo.
“Well, I’ve had an idea.” said Rocco and looked across the table at Blobbo, Coco, Oddo, Beepo and Twinko.
They were all sitting at the Oggle Café on Bubble Mountain and had just finished their Ogglecake breakfast.
“What is it?” asked Blobbo.
“Well,” said Rocco, “we haven’t been to the Zoo for a long time. We can find out how the Oggopotamus are doing.”
Now, the Oggopotamus is a very strange animal with six legs. They’ve got blue feathers and live up trees. They are a bit like the Rhinoggeros, which has got green feathers and lives in great big holes underground.
Both of these animals like to eat Oggtatoes and jam.
Hands up everyone who wants to go to the Zoo,’ said Rocco.
“The Zoo, the Zoo! What a great idea, Rocco!” said Coco.
“We had better ask Pasto to make us a picnic,” said Blobbo.
Beepo flew off into the kitchen to ask Pasto.
“Last time we all went to the zoo I saw the Dangeroos,” said Blobbo.
“Dangeroos?” asked Coco.
“What in blazing bananas are Dangeroos?” asked Rocco.
“I’ll show you when we get there,” said Blobbo, “maybe after we’ve eaten our picnic.”
“Dangeroos, never heard of Dangeroos,” said Twinko.
Not long afterwards Pasto came out of the kitchen with six little boxes. These boxes were called Oggleboxes and they had the name of every Ogglebog on the front.
“Come and get your picnic boxes, everyone!” said Pasto and handed one out to each excited Ogglebog.
“Thank you, Pasto,” said Twinko.
“Yes, thank you,” said Coco.
“What’s inside, Pasto, I’m hungry?” said Blobbo.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“Yes, you will have to wait until you get to the zoo, Blobbo,” said Pasto.
“Everyone got their Oggleboxes? Right, off we go!” said Rocco.
They all went down Bubble Mountain, past the Mushmallow Forest, past all the little Ogglebog houses and they were soon at the door to the Zoo.
In they all went and they just stood there thinking about what to look at first.
Twinko watched as a lovely little Oggdog came up.
Now Oggdogs are very beautiful and friendly animals with silky fur, whiskers, pointy ears, long tails and say…. meow.
Twinko reached down and stroked the Oggdog who purred happily.
“Where are your Oggopotamus, Rocco?” asked Coco.
“Hmmm, can’t remember,” said Rocco.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“Yes, Beepo, I can see the sign over there!” said Twinko.
“Oh yes, I remember now,” said Rocco.
They all went over to the sign and, sure enough, the sign said ‘Oggopotamus’.
“Thanks, Beepo,” said Rocco.
Over in the distance there were some trees. And up in the trees were some animals with blue feathers.
“That’s them, that's where the Oggopotamus live, up there,” said Rocco.
“Hello,’ said a new voice, “I see you are looking at the Oggopotamus.”
The new voice belonged to a very old Ogglebog who was shaped like a sausage and had a long blue beard.
“I’m Freddo and I look after the animals in this part of the Zoo,” said Freddo.
“Nice to meet you, Freddo,” said Twinko.
“How are the Oggopotamus?” asked Rocco.
“They don’t seem very happy these days,” said Freddo.
“Oh dear, why is that?” asked Oddo.
Freddo pointed to a little empty wheelbarrow.
“Well, we’ve run out of jam, you see,”said Freddo, “and when they don’t have any jam it makes them sad. We’ve got lots of Oggtatoes though.”
“I know,” said Blobbo, “my Auntie Blibbo has got lots and lots and lots of jam in her kitchen and I know she will be happy to give us some for the Oggopotamus!”
“Great idea, Blobbo,” said Twinko.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“Yes, Beepo, Blobbo can use the wheelbarrow to bring back the jam! That’s okay, isn’t it?” asked Rocco.
“Of course,” said Freddo.
Blobbo picked up the wheelbarrow handles and said “See you soon!”
The other Ogglebogs all went round the Zoo and saw so many wonderful animals. Some they had never seen before, like the Oggophants. The Oggophants are tiny little creatures with two trunks that live underwater.
Then they heard silly laughing sounds and looked up to see very strange, green, banana-shaped, red nosed birds flying around.
“Clownbirds!” said Coco, “we saw them at the beach!”
Soon, Blobbo was back with a wheelbarrow full of pots of jam.
Freddo was very pleased and said, “The Oggopotamus will be very happy now! Thank you very much.”
“Time for our picnic I think,” said Blobbo, “I’m really hungry.”
They all sat down under an Onion Tree and opened their Oggleboxes.
When they had finished their picnic, Rocco said, “Okay Blobbo, where are these Dangeroos?”
They picked up their Oggleboxes and followed Blobbo to a cage that had some of the funniest animals anyone had ever seen.
They had round heads on long, thin bodies and were covered in furry purple dots. They had three big eyes and the silliest expressions on their faces. The Ogglebogs had never seen an animal that looked so funny. And when they laughed, the animals laughed back and that made the Ogglebogs laugh even harder.
Freddo came up and said, “Ah, you’ve found the Purple Furry Oggadillos and if you look at them for too long you will get a tummy-ache from laughing. That’s why we put up a sign that says ‘These animals are dangerous’.”
“Dangerous?” said Blobbo, “I thought the sign said they were Dangeroos!”
Twinko said, “That’s an easy mistake to make, Blobbo.”
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“Yes, Beepo, time to go home,” said Rocco.
Back at the Oggle Café Pasto was waiting for them with special Ogglettes for supper.
Six very tired Ogglebogs thanked Pasto as they handed back their Oggleboxes.
“Another great day,” said Coco.
“Yes and I’ll never forget the Purple Furry Oggadillos,” said Rocco.
“Don’t you mean Dangeroos,” laughed Blobbo.
