Summary
Three very cute billy goats of varying sizes try to cross a bridge but a beastly troll lives underneath. Will all of the billy goats make it safely across the bridge? The Three Billy Goats Gruff must bravely cross a bridge in order to reach some delicious grass on the other side. Little do they know that a big, mean troll has laid claim to the bridge and is not happy about trespassers. As they cross, each of the Three Billy Goats Gruff must face the challenge of getting past the greedy troll - but with bravery and wit, they all make it across safely! The themes in our retelling of The Three Billy Goats Gruff are bravery, teamwork and cleverness; teaching that working together and using individuals strengths is the key to overcoming obstacles. The original folktale was first recorded by Norwegian folklorist Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Moe in their ‘Norwegian Folktales’ collection published in 1841. Prior to that, it was traditional Scandinavian folktale passed down through generations.
