Counting Cakes
One bright and sunny morning Rocco, Blobbo, Coco, Oddo, Beepo and Twinko were all sitting at their usual table at the Oggle Café.
Pasto came up with a tray of delicious Ogglecakes.
“Mmmmm, they smell delicious,” said Rocco.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz!” said Beepo.
“My pleasure, Beepo” said Pasto, “You Ogglebogs are my best customers on the whole of planet Ogg.”
“And your Ogglecakes are the best Ogglecakes that were ever made,” said Blobbo.
“I think so too,” said Oddo.
“Me too,” said Twinko.
“Do you want some more Oggleberry juice,” asked Pasto.
“No thank you, Pasto,” said Rocco.
“Well, here’s your Ogglecakes, happy munching!” said Pasto with a big smile and went back to the kitchen.
“Wait a minute. There aren’t enough Ogglecakes,” said Coco.
“How do you know?” asked Twinko.
“I counted them, silly,” said Coco.
“Looks to me like there are plenty of Ogglecakes to go round everyone,” said Rocco.
“Well, there aren’t,” said Coco.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz!” said Beepo.
“Yes, Beepo. Go on, Rocco, you count them,” said Oddo.
Rocco started counting, “One, two, er, three? Five and six!”
“No, you missed one,” said Coco.
“I only learnt up to three. But I’m good at lots of other things,” said Rocco.
“We know you are Rocco,” said Blobbo.
“Do you know the Oggphabet?” asked Twinko.
Rocco looked cross and said, “of course, its, hay, beans, seaside, glee, elf, cake, and, er….”
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz!” said Beepo.
“Cake isn’t a letter!” laughed Oddo.
“Oh, blazing bananas,” said Rocco, “I’m trying my best. Anyway, I like cake.”
“You might remember better when you’ve got a full tummy,” said Blobbo, “a full tummy always helps me think.”
“All right, here’s a little quiz,” said Twinko.
“Ohhhh, I like quizzes,” said Coco.
Twinko went on, “If Pasto makes six Ogglecakes and Blobbo eats two, how many Ogglecakes are left?”
“Not enough for my tummy,” said Blobbo.
“Not as many as before?” said Coco.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz!” said Beepo.
“That’s right, Beepo, the answer is four!” said Twinko.
Just then Pasto came out with an Ogglecake on a plate. “Sorry, I missed one.”
“Thanks, Pasto,” said Blobbo, “See, everyone, when you have the right amount of Ogglecakes, everyone is happy!”
Twinko said, “Now we can munch!”
“Maybe after we’ve munched, we could go on an adventure,” said Rocco.
“We must go to the Custard Lake,” said Coco, “I’ve nearly run out of bath custard.”
“Me too,” said Oddo.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“Yes, Beepo, we need to go to the Bucket Cave first,” said Rocco.
“Don’t forget, we like green custard best,” said Twinko.
They all left the Oggle Café and went down Bubble Mountain.
All the while, Rocco had a thinking face on.
“You okay, Rocco?” Asked Coco.
“I’m having some thinks,” replied Rocco.
“I like your thinking face,” said Coco.
They went past the Mushmallow Forest and very soon they got to the Bucket Cave.
Inside the cave, all the buckets made rattly, clattery sounds as they hung down from the cave roof.
Rocco took down a bucket. “Who needs bath custard, I’ve forgotten?” he asked.
“Me,” said Coco.
“That’s one cake,” said Rocco.
“And me, too,” said Oddo.
“That’s another cake,” said Rocco.
“Oh, I need some, too,” said Twinko.
“That’s another cake,” said Rocco, “So, we need three buckets.”
“That was quick counting,” said Blobbo.
“I liked the number cake, you see,” said Rocco
“Cake isn’t a number, Rocco,” said Twinko, laughing.
Rocco laughed as well, “But it helped me count. In my mind, each bucket was a cake and that made three buckets!
“Clever old Rocco!” said Twinko.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
Blobbo said, “Yes, Beepo, let’s take our three buckets to the Custard Lake.”
“Before the custard changes colour!” said Coco.
“It’s near here,” said Oddo.
“I can smell custard,” said Blobbo.
“Me too,” said Twinko.
“It’s just through this gap in the cave,” said Rocco.
Soon, they were at the Custard Lake. And it was just the right colour, green.
“That was lucky for you,” said Rocco, “It could have been purple.”
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“Yes, Beepo, we had better fill our buckets before it changes colour again!” said Blobbo, “But I like purple custard best.”
“Green custard makes a very nice change,” said Twinko.
They filled all three buckets with lovely green bath custard.
Then they carried the three buckets of custard to the houses of Twinko, Oddo and Coco.
“All that bucket-carrying has made me hungry,” said Blobbo.
“Anything makes you hungry, Blobbo,” said Oddo.
“That’s true, and I could yawn up a whole tray of Ogglecakes,” answered Blobbo.
When they got back to the Oggle Café they all sat down at their usual table.
Rocco was thinking again.
Pasto came up, smiling at the Ogglebog friends.
Rocco said, “Six Ogglecakes, please Pasto.”
Twinko said, “You can count after all, Rocco!”
“In my mind, every one of us was a cake and I counted, one, two, three, four, five, six. Six cakes! One for each Ogglebog!
“Yippee, Rocco,” said Twinko, “Next time we can have fun with the Oggphabet!”
