The Ogglebogs Short Story & Audiobook Series: Episode 7 - Ogglebogs Go Painting
Aunt Blibbo's house needs to be painted. Who do you think ended up with paint on their head? And whose fault was it?
Ogglebogs Go Painting
One morning Rocco, Blobbo, Coco, Oddo, Beepo and Twinko were all sitting at their usual table at the Oggle Café on Bubble Mountain.
But it had just started to rain.
They all looked out of the window and saw the great big clouds.
Now, you don’t see clouds very often on Planet Ogg. But when it rains tiny pink drops fall from the sky and land with little pops and puffs of pink smoke.
“You can’t play outside when it rains,” said Oddo.
“My fluffy fur goes all flat in the rain,” said Twinko.
“I get hungry when it rains,” said Blobbo.
“You get hungry when it’s sunny too, Blobbo,” said Rocco.
“That’s true,” said Blobbo.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz?” asked Beepo.
“We could go for a walk to the Custard Lake,” said Rocco.
“No, thanks, got enough custard to last for ages,” said Blobbo, “and I stop myself yawning in the bath now.”
“Yes, we remember what happened last time when you yawned up all your bath custard!” said Coco.
“Yes, I yawned it all up into my tummy,” said Blobbo.
“Anyway, it’s raining,” said Oddo.
“Shall I tell you my idea?” said Rocco, “I don’t mind getting a bit of pink rain on me. I will go down Bubble Mountain to the Mushmallow Forest and pick some little mushmallows.”
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz, bzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“Yes, Beepo. We can use them as umbrellas!” said Rocco.
“Then we can all go off somewhere!” said Twinko.
“Somewhere there’s food?” said Blobbo.
“Well, I heard that Blobbo’s Auntie Blibbo needs some painting done at her little house. Hands up all Ogglebogs who want to help,” said Rocco.
All the Ogglebog friends put their hands up.
Rocco looked very happy and said, “You are all amazing! All right, you stay here and I will get the little mushmallows. Then we’ll all keep dry when we go off to the paint shop.”
Rocco went down Bubble Mountain to the Mushmallow Forest. He picked six little mushmallows and was soon back at the Café.
Each Ogglebog got a little mushmallow.
“A perfect little umbrella!” said Oddo.
“It will keep my pink fur dry!” said Twinko.
“Off we go to the Paint Shop, everyone” said Rocco.
Not far from the Ogglebog houses was the Paint Shop and in they all went.
Now, the paint on Planet Ogg is a little bit different. There are lots of lovely colours but some paint is striped, some paint has dots and some paint is inside out.
“What colour does your Auntie Blibbo like best, Blobbo?” asked Coco.
“Jelly,” said Blobbo.
“Jelly isn’t a colour, Blobbo,” said Oddo.
“I know, but Auntie Blibbo likes all kinds of jelly,” said Blobbo.
“Hmmm, that’s not very helpful,” said Rocco.
“Jam, she likes jam, too,” said Blobbo.
The Ogglebogs looked at all the different paint colours in the shop and couldn’t make up their minds.
“Too many colours to choose from,” said Oddo.
Blobbo felt a bit hungry and took a big bite out of his mushmallow umbrella. And then another big bite.
“That was tasty,” said Blobbo and gave a great big happy smile.
The minute the Ogglebogs saw his smile they all burst out laughing.
You might remember that on some days when Ogglebogs eat mushmallows they start to whistle. On other days they can turn Ogglebog tongues bright yellow and make their teeth go orange.
“What is it, what’s so funny?” asked Blobbo.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“My teeth?” asked Blobbo.
“Yes, they are all orange!” laughed Oddo.
“And your tongue is yellow,” giggled Twinko.
“My tongue?” said Blobbo.
“Looks quite good,” said Rocco.
“I know,” said Coco, “why don’t we get orange and yellow striped paint!”
“Great idea,” said Rocco.
They bought some pots of orange and yellow striped paint and arrived at Auntie Blibbo’s house.
Auntie Blibbo came to the door and Blobbo said, “we’ve come to do some painting for you, Auntie.”
“Ohhhh, thank you ever so much. This is the room,” said Auntie Blibbo and led the Ogglebog friends into the little sitting room.
“We’ve got orange and yellow striped paint,” said Blobbo.
“That will match your mouth, Blobbo,” said Auntie Blibbo and laughed, “I will always think of your silly smile when I sit in here. It will make me smile, too! Now, I’m going into the kitchen to get you all some Oggleberryade for when you have finished painting.”
“Right,” said Rocco, “who wants to be head painter?”
“Please can I?” asked Twinko.
“Everyone, Twinko is now head painter,” said Rocco.
“Now, Oddo and Coco, you can paint the walls. Beepo, you can stir the paint,” said Twinko.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz.” said Beepo.
“Rocco, you and me can paint the door. Blobbo, you can paint the ceiling. But please be very careful. We don’t want any splidge-splodges of paint anywhere, do we?” said Twinko.
Coco said, “Why don’t we use our little mushmallows as umbrellas to stop paint splidge-splodging on things?”
“Great idea,” said Twinko.
The Ogglebogs held up their mushmallow umbrellas and started to paint.
But Blobbo was painting the ceiling. And Blobbo had taken great big bites out of the mushmallow umbrella. And some paint had splidge-splodged right down and gone right through the bites in Blobbo’s umbrella.
So, Blobbo had two big splodges of striped paint and didn’t know they were there.
It didn’t take long until the paint job was done and the little sitting room was all striped and new looking. Auntie Blibbo came in and when she saw the room she was very happy.
“Thank you everyone!” said Auntie Blibbo, “it looks wonderful! Now, after you have had your Oggleberryade, everyone can have a treat of extra Ogglecakes at the Oggle Café.”
Back at the Café Rocco, Blobbo, Coco, Oddo, Beepo and Twinko all sat at their usual table.
“That was another great day, today,” said Rocco.
“Yes” said Coco, “you can always find good things to do even when it’s raining.”
Pasto came out of the kitchen with a tray of Ogglecakes, giggled and said, “what have you got on top of your head, Blobbo?”
Blobbo gave a big smile and said, “Nothing, why?”
“Looks like splidge-splodges of orange and yellow striped paint to me,” said Pasto, “and it matches your smile!”
