The Ogglebogs Short Story & Audiobook Series: Episode 4 - The Stolen Ogglecakes
Meet a new Ogglebog called Pasto. Pasto bakes the best Ogglecakes on planet Ogg, but on this particular morning, the ogglecakes are missing. So where on planet Ogg could they be?
The Stolen Ogglecakes
One fine morning Rocco, Blobbo, Coco, Oddo, Beepo and Twinko were all sitting at their usual table at the Oggle Café on Bubble Mountain.
“Our Ogglecakes should be here by now and I’m getting really, really hungry,” wailed Blobbo.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz!” said Beepo.
“Where’s Pasto?” said Oddo.
Now, Pasto the Baker is a very round Ogglebog with a huge orange moustache and four strong arms. Having four arms means that Pasto can make Ogglecakes twice as quickly as any other Ogglecake baker.
And the Ogglecakes Pasto bakes win Ogglecake baking competitions every year.
“You know why Pasto’s Ogglecakes are so tasty?” asked Rocco.
“Yes, he gets his plims from a secret plim orchard and they are the tastiest plims on the whole of Planet Ogg,” said Twinko.
Suddenly, Pasto came out of the kitchen looking sad and said, “Bad news, everyone, really bad news!”
“Oh dear, what can it be?” asked Blobbo.
“All my Ogglecakes have gone, gone, just gone, oh dear, bad news, bad news!” said Pasto.
“Oh no!” yelled Blobbo, “this is the worst thing I’ve heard since my Auntie Blibbo ran out of bath custard for a whole week!”
“What do you mean, gone?” asked Rocco, “where did they go?”
“Did they run away?” asked Twinko.
“Don’t be silly,” said Oddo, “Ogglecakes can’t run anywhere!”
“Well, where are they, then?” asked Rocco.
Pasto replied, “Before you all came in this morning I put my Ogglecakes into the new oven to cook. My old oven doesn’t work properly any more, you see. I usually have the kitchen window wide open so my Ogglecakes wouldn’t be too hot for you lot to eat. And I heard a funny noise, so I looked out of the window.”
“What did you see?” asked Twinko.
“Didn’t see anything,” said Pasto.
“That’s a bit odd,” said Oddo.
“It is odd, Oddo. I just don’t understand,” said Pasto, “then I thought I’d have a quick look in the oven just to make sure the Ogglecakes looked all right. But they had gone!”
“But what was the funny noise?” asked Rocco.
Well, the funny noise sounded like, “Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Pasto, “that’s funny, I thought, what’s Beepo doing here?”
Everyone looked at Beepo.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“Yes, it does sound like the Riplats did it, Beepo,” said Oddo, “none of us would think it was you.”
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“There’s only one way to find out who is the Ogglecake thief,” said Rocco, “we have to go to where the Riplats live and we can find the missing Ogglecakes.”
“Hope we can find them soon or my tummy will be wondering what’s happened to my breakfast,” said Blobbo.
“You come with me Blobbo, you can smell an Ogglecake from a long way off,” said Rocco.
So, off went Rocco and Blobbo, down Bubble Mountain until they came to the Mushmallow Forest, where the Riplats live.
“Start sniffing, Blobbo,” said Rocco.
They looked everywhere, behind mushmallows and round the smelly old Blobweed patch. Blobbo sniffed and sniffed, but there was no smell of Ogglecakes.
And the funny thing was that the further away they got from the Oggle Café the smell of Ogglecakes got less and less.
“No Ogglecakes anywhere around here,” said Blobbo.
“No Riplats, either,” said Rocco.
Just then Blobbo squelched into the stinky, smelly Ogg Bog.
“Oh no, pooh, stinky, horrible,” yelled Blobbo, “look at me!”
“Oh dear, that does look messy and it’s stinky smelly, too. You had better come with me to the Treetaps,” said Rocco and pulled Blobbo out.
Now, the Treetaps are strange trees that have pipes running up their sides and taps right at their tops.
“Here’s a good one,” said Rocco, “let’s climb up.”
Up they climbed right to the top of the Treetap and there at the very top were lots and lots of taps.
“Why are there taps at the tops of the Treetaps?” asked Blobbo.
“So Ogglebirds can fly up and wash their socks, of course,” said Rocco.
“Oh, I see,” said Blobbo.
“Now, let me run this tap, Blobbo,” said Rocco, pointing at one of the taps at the top of the Treetap.
With one turn the water gushed out and washed Blobbo until there was no stinky smelly left.
“That’s much better, thanks Rocco,” said Blobbo.
“Good view from up here,” said Rocco.
“Yes and now I can smell something very nice. It’s coming from over there,” said Blobbo.
Over there was the Bubble Mountain and at the top of the Bubble Mountain is the Oggle Café.
“What nice smell is it, Blobbo?” asked Rocco.
“Ogglecakes, for sure,” said Blobbo.
They climbed down the Treetap and set off back up Bubble Mountain and the smell of Ogglecakes got stronger and stronger.
“I’m feeling very hungry now,” said Blobbo.
When Rocco and Blobbo got back to the Café you can imagine how surprised they were to see Pasto standing there with a tray of freshly baked Ogglecakes.
“Oh dear, it’s all my fault” said Pasto, “I got my ovens mixed up and I’d put the Ogglecakes into the old oven and not the new one.”
“But what about the funny sound you heard?” asked Twinko.
“You mean the bzzz, bzzzz, bzz sound?” asked Pasto.
“Yes,” said Oddo, “it was very odd.”
“It must have been the sound of my old oven when it was going wrong,” said Pasto.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz!” said Beepo.
“No, you don’t sound like an old oven going wrong, Beepo,” said Coco, “you sound like our dear friend Beepo.”
Pasto said, “Just to make up I want to give you all a special celebration drink of Oggleberryade.”
Now, Oggleberryade is a delicious drink with blue bubbles that float out of the cup.
Pasto came back with long green cups filled to the brim with Oggleberryade. Ogglebogs have to use Ogglestraws to drink it because the blue bubbles can sometimes float up their noses and make them sneeze.
Blobbo took a sip and then said “Now pleeeease can I have my Ogglecake before I forget why I’ve got a tummy!”
