The Great Oggleberry Hunt
One morning Rocco, Blobbo, Coco, Oddo, Beepo and Twinko were all sitting at their usual table at the Oggle Café on Bubble Mountain.
Pasto the Baker was hard at work in the kitchen getting the Ogglecakes ready and shouted out, “Nearly ready!”
Finally Pasto came up to the table with a tray of Ogglecakes.
But there was something wrong.
Twinko said, “There’s something wrong.”
And Oddo said, “There’s something wrong.”
And Beepo said, “Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz!”
And Rocco said, “There’s something not quite right!”
And Blobbo said, “What?”
And Coco said, “You are a lot of sillies! Look at the Ogglecakes and what is on top of them?”
“Nothing,” said Blobbo.
“Exactly,” said Coco, “now look again.”
“I know what it is,” said Rocco, “no Oggleberries on top!”
Now, an Oggleberry is a little purple Ogg fruit that tastes like a hundred pineapples all put together.
Every Ogglebog on Planet Ogg knows that an Ogglecake has got to have an Oggleberry on top. It wouldn’t be a proper Ogglecake without one.
“I’ve run out, got no more left in the kitchen,” said Pasto.
“None left?” said Rocco.
“Oh no,” said Twinko.
“Don’t cry,” said Blobbo, as little green tears rolled down Twinko’s face, “we’ll think of something.”
“I’ve never ever had an Ogglecake without an Oggleberry on top,” sniffed Twinko.
“What are we going to do?” asked Oddo.
“I know” said Rocco, “why don’t we have an Oggleberry hunt?”
“What, before breakfast? I’m too hungry” said Blobbo.
“Brilliant idea!” said Oddo.
“Ogglecakes aren’t proper Ogglecakes without an Oggleberry on top, you know that, Blobbo” said Twinko.
“That’s true. But I’m still very hungry,” said Blobbo.
“Oggleberries grow right in the middle of the stinky smelly bogland, don’t they?” asked Oddo.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz!” said Beepo.
“Yes, Beepo, there are Riplats there” said Rocco, “but we want our Oggleberries, don’t we? And we will all need a little basket!”
“Do we put the Oggleberries in the basket, Rocco?” asked Blobbo.
“No, you wear them on your head” said Rocco.
“Do you?” said Blobbo.
“Oh, Blobbo, you are silly sometimes, of course you don’t,” said Rocco, “a basket is for putting the Oggleberries in.”
“Oh, I see,” said Blobbo, “but I’d quite like a basket hat!”
“Silly Blobbo! Right, see you all at the Mushmallow Forest in ten minutes!” said Rocco.
Rocco, Blobbo, Coco, Oddo, Beepo and Twinko set off down Bubble Mountain and went off to their funny little houses to get their little baskets.
Soon they were all waiting at the Mushmallow Forest right at the edge of the Ogg bogland.
“Now, we can hunt for Oggleberry bushes. Let’s go,” said Rocco.
Soon they were going deeper and deeper into the bogland past giant Blobweed plants and funny looking grasses that moved in the wind.
“I think there might be Riplats around here,” said Blobbo.
“Don’t worry, it’s just tall grass,” said Twinko.
Suddenly Coco shouted, ‘found one!’ and there in front of them was an Oggleberry bush that had hundreds of ripe Oggleberries all waiting to be picked.
The Ogglebogs started picking and picking and before long their little baskets were nearly full.
Rocco was very pleased and said, “well done, everyone! Pasto will be so happy!”
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz!” said Beepo.
“Yes, we had better get back now, Beepo,” said Rocco.
“Yes please,” said Blobbo, “I’m very tired and hungry and, and….”
Just then Blobbo did a great big yawn.
“Where are all your Oggleberries, Blobbo, your basket is empty?” said Coco.
“I told you there were Riplats round here!” shouted Blobbo, “Rocco, the Riplats have stolen all my Oggleberries!”
“Blazing bananas, Blobbo, you’ve got Oggleberry juice round your mouth,” said Twinko.
“Have I?” asked Blobbo, “funny but I can taste Oggleberries on my tongue, too. Oh, no, I must have yawned up all my Oggleberries and now they are all in my tummy. I won’t have any Oggleberries for Pasto, what am I going to do?”
“I know,” said Oddo, “why doesn’t each of us put some of our Oggleberries into Blobbo’s basket and then we will all have the same?”
And that is exactly what happened. Each Ogglebog put some of their Oggleberries into Blobbo’s little basket.
“We’ve all got the same now, everyone,” said Rocco, “breakfast time!”
“Hooooooray!” said Blobbo.
They all set off back up Bubble Mountain with their little baskets of Oggleberries.
Pasto was waiting for them at the Café with a tray of delicious Ogglecakes and Twinko plonked an Oggleberry onto each one.
“Now that’s what I call a proper Ogglecake,” said Twinko with a great big smile.
