The Ogglebogs Short Story & Audiobook Series: Episode 34 - Iggle The Lost Oggybear
Twinko is terribly upset because Iggle the oggybear has gone missing. Determined to help, the Ogglebog friends embark on a quest to unravel the mystery and bring Iggy back home.
Iggle The Lost Oggybear
It was another sunny morning at the Oggle Café. Rocco, Blobbo, Coco, Oddo and Beepo were about to munch their favourite ogglecake breakfast.
Blobbo said, “I’ve got a funny feeling that something is missing.”
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz!” said Beepo.
“Yes, Beepo,” said Rocco. “Not something, but someone.”
“That someone is Twinko,” said Coco.
“Where can Twinko be?” asked Oddo.
Just then, Twinko came into the café. And Twinko looked very sad.
“Hello, Twinko. We are about to munch our ogglecakes, so you are just in time,” said Blobbo.
“I’m not hungry,” said Twinko.
“Not hungry?” asked Blobbo. “That’s never happened to me.”
Rocco laughed, then said, “You are always hungry, Blobbo!”
“But why aren’t you hungry, Twinko?” asked Oddo.
“Yes, why?” asked Coco.
“I’ve lost my favourite toy,” said Twinko in a very sad voice.
“Not your little oggybear?” asked Coco.
“Little Iggle the oggybear?” asked Oddo.
Then, Twinko began to cry. “Yes, little Iggle, the best oggybear ever.”
Iggle the oggybear was bright orange and soft and cuddly. The oggybear had twinkling stars on its ears and a little moon on its tummy.
All the Ogglebog friends were sad to see Twinko cry.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz!” said Beepo.
“Good thinking, Beepo,” said Rocco. “Do you remember the last time you had Iggle?”
“Well, I went to WhimWhams toyshop yesterday to have a look at the toys.”
“Ah, maybe you dropped Iggle there!” said Coco.
“Maybe you did,” said Oddo.
“But I had Iggle in my hand when I walked out,” said Twinko. “I remember that because Frimble-Bop jumped up and went, ‘Meow! Meow!’ Frimble-Bop wanted to play with Iggle, I think.”
“Where did you go next?” asked Rocco.
“I went to watch other Ogglebogs play on the berry-go-round and the ground-about. I like going to the Spray Area on Hattersdays. Then, I had a little sleep. When I woke up, I couldn’t find Iggle.”
“Did you walk through the Mushmallow Forest?” asked Blobbo.
“Yes,” answered Twinko.
“We’d better set off to the Mushmallow Forest first,” said Rocco.
“Don't worry, Twinko,” Blobbo said. “We’ll help you find Iggle.”
“We’ll search high and low until we find Iggle!” said Rocco.
“We’ll look everywhere you went,” said Bobbo. “As soon as I’ve munched my ogglecake, I’ll be ready.”
“Oh dear, I went past the stinky Ogg Bog. I hope I didn’t drop Iggle there,” said Twinko, looking very worried.
"There’s lots of stinky blobweed in the Ogg Bog,” said Rocco, “so we will have to be careful. We don’t want anyone treading in the stinky, smelly stuff. Yuck!”
You might remember that blobweed is a stinky, smelly plant that grows near the bogland. It is a horrible sludgy dark green and smells like old dogs and last week’s boiled eggs all mixed up.
The Ogglebog friends all went down Bubble Mountain. Soon, they were at the Mushmallow Forest.
They looked under rocks and behind mushmallows. They even asked the ogglebirds and oggerflies if they had seen Iggle. But it seemed like Iggle had vanished. All the Ogglebog friends looked sad.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz!” said Beepo.
“Good idea, Beepo,” said Rocco. “We should try the Ogg Bog next.”
“Stinky place,” said Coco.
“Smelly place,” said Oddo.
When they all got to the Ogg Bog, they were very careful. Thank goodness no one trod in any blobweed. They looked and looked, but there was no sign of Iggle there.
Then, they suddenly heard a loud noise. “Meow! Meow!”
Rocco said, “Blazing bananas! It’s that naughty ogg dog!”
Yes, it’s usually cats that go, “Meow! Meow!” and dogs that go, “Woof! Woof!” But this is Planet Ogg. Things are a bit different here.
Now, you might remember that this particular ogg dog was called Frimble-Bop, who looked like a great big ball of bright-red wool and had four stick legs. And two tails. Yep, two tails! All ogg dogs have two tails. Now, you know an ogg dog is happy when they wag one tail. But if an ogg dog is really, really happy, they wag both tails at the same time.
Frimble-Bop came up to the friends and wagged both tails.
“Hello, Frimble-Bop,” said Twinko. “You wanted to play with Iggle yesterday, didn’t you?”
“Meow! Meow!” went Frimble-Bop.
“Maybe Frimble-Bop can help us,” said Coco.
“Yes, that’s a good idea,” said Oddo.
“Meow! Meow! Meow! Meow!” went Frimble-Bop and wagged both tails.
“Let’s go to the Spray Area, everyone,” said Blobbo.
I’d better explain. It’s called the Spray Area because something happened there a long time ago. Some Thieva-Goons from Planet Spledge tried to steal the hee-haws. These Thieva-Goons used to go from planet to planet stealing toys, just because they didn’t like seeing happy young aliens.
And, by the way, Thieva-Goons are very smelly because they never wash.
An old Ogglebog called Grumbello became fed up with the Thieva-Goons, so set up a trap. Every time a Thieva-Goon came near the Spray Area, a giant hose was switched on and they were splooshed and sprayed with a giant jet of water. How they ran! They didn’t like it because water made them smell nicer. So, it had been called the Spray Area ever since.
The Ogglebog friends were all a little bit tired by then. So, they all sat down for a rest.
Suddenly, Twinko jumped up.
“I’ve just remembered something!” yelled Twinko.
“What?” asked Coco.
“What is it?” asked Oddo.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz!” said Beepo.
“Just before I went to sleep, I put Iggle on the hee-haw so it would be safe. There were no other Ogglebogs there,” said Twinko.
“That’s where we will find Iggle!” said Rocco.
Off went the Ogglebog friends and Frimble-Bop, wagging both tails with excitement. Before long, they were at the Spray Area.
They looked and looked everywhere. They looked all around the berry-go-round and the ground-about. No sign of Iggle.
Then, they went to the hee-haw. They looked and looked. But there was no sign of Iggle there either.
Twinko was looking very sad. “I’ll never see my little Iggle ever again.”
“Let’s check here one more time,” said Blobbo.
They looked and looked, but still couldn’t find Iggle.
Just then there was a very loud, “Meow! Meow! Meow! Meow!”
Frimble-Bop was staring up at a tall plim tree. And there, nestled among the leaves at the very top, was Iggle! Twinko’s face lit up with a great big smile.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz!” said Beepo.
“Beepo knows what happened, everyone,” said Rocco. “Twinko put Iggle on one end of the hee-haw. When Twinko was asleep, another Ogglebog must have jumped on the other end!”
“And that made Iggle shoot up in the air,” said Blobbo.
Beepo flew up to the top of the plim tree and rescued Iggle.
Twinko hugged Iggle. “Thank you, everyone, and a very special thanks to good old Frimble-Bop!”
Suddenly, there was a very loud, “Meow! Meow! Meow! Meow!”
“You found Iggle! Thank you, Frimble-Bop, you clever ogg dog!” Twinko said, with a big smile.
Frimble-Bop wagged both tails so hard the ogg dog nearly fell over.
The Ogglebog friends were all relieved to see their friend so happy.
“We’re always here to help you, Twinko,” said Rocco.
“Yes, real friends are always there to lend a helping hand,” said Coco.
“I quite agree,” said Oddo.
“Now, is anyone hungry?” asked Blobbo. “I could munch twenty ogglecakes!”
