The Ogglebogs Short Story & Audiobook Series Episode 23 - Ogglebogs On Holiday
The Ogglebogs decide to go on holiday to Planet Hollypop.
Ogglebogs On Holiday
One morning, Rocco, Blobbo, Coco, Oddo, Beepo and Twinko were at the Oggle Café on Bubble Mountain. They were eating their famous Ogglecake breakfast.
“These are the best Ogglecakes I’ve ever tasted,” said Blobbo, with a big smile.
“Yummy,” said Coco.
“Scrummy”, said Oddo.
“I just love Ogglecakes!” said Blobbo.
Rocco looked out of the window and said, “Blazing bananas, it’s raining!”
It didn’t rain much on Planet Ogg but when it did, tiny pink drops fell from the sky. They landed with little pops and puffs of pink smoke.
“I hope it doesn’t rain on our holiday,” said Rocco.
“Someone told me the rain on planet Hollypop is blue and smells of bubbles,” said Coco.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“Yes, Beepo, how can something smell of bubbles?” asked Blobbo.
“I don’t know,” said Coco, “It just does.”
“What’s it like on planet Hollypop?” asked Twinko.
“I picked it for our holiday because they say it’s very nice there. But it is a bit different from our planet,” said Rocco.
“We hope we like it there,” said Coco.
“I don’t like the sound of it much,” said Oddo.
Then it was time for the Ogglebogs to set off. They all had their little suitcases packed and ready.
Blobbo looked around and said, “Bye, bye Oggle Café.”
They had to catch a bus called the Ogglebog Express to get to the hairport. Yes, I did say “hairport.” You see, a hairport is where the holiday rockets are. Some of these are special rockets that are covered in fur. These rockets need the fur to keep warm because they fly to the Arctrick Circle, which is a ring of icy stars.
The Ogglebog friends went down Bubble Mountain and soon they got to the bus stop.
“I’ve got the tickets,” said Rocco.
Soon, they could hear a pop, pop, pop sound and then the funny-looking orange bus arrived. The Ogglebog Express is shaped like a triangle with a chimney sticking out of the top. Little green bubbles popped out of the chimney as it went along.
The Ogglebog friends helped each other onto the bus and got into their seats.
And then, with a pop, pop, pop sound the bus started off.
It wasn’t very long before they arrived at the hairport. The Ogglebog friends got out.
Lots of different-shaped rockets stood waiting at the hairport.
But then Rocco said, “Oh no, I can’t remember which rocket we are meant to be on! Is it the rocket for planet HollyPop or the rocket for planet HollyPip?”
“Silly Rocco,” said Oddo.
Twinko said, “Who has got the tickets?”
Blobbo said, “Not me.”
Coco said, “Not me.”
Oddo said, “Nope.”
Beepo said, “Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz.”
“Oh yes, Beepo,” said Rocco, “I’ve got the tickets, after all. I am a silly Rocco! Yes, here they are, Planet Hollypop!”
“Hope there are no smelly bubbles there,” said Coco.
“Bubbles don’t smell, Coco,” said Blobbo. “Anyway, I’m hungry.”
The Ogglebog friends went up a silver ladder and into the rocket. A smiling round, green Ogglebog in a pink uniform showed them where to sit.
Then the Captain said, “Fasten your Oggbelts, the rocket is about to take off. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1!”
With a great whoooooosh, the rocket went up, up, up in the air.
The Ogglebog friends looked out of their little windows.
“That looks like Bubble Mountain down there,” said Rocco.
“And there’s the Ogg Bog,” said Coco.
“And look out there at all the stars and moons!” said Twinko.
“Magical,” said Coco.
“Magical,” said Oddo.
The rocket whizzed through space. Then Rocco said, “Look everyone, that’s Planet Hollypop down there!”
With a gentle bump, the rocket came down to land.
The Ogglebog friends all went down the silver ladder. They were on planet Hollypop!
They looked around and saw the beautiful green sky with bright yellow fluffy clouds.
“It’s not the same as home,” said Oddo.
“Not one bit,” said Coco.
“I miss home,” said Oddo.
Then Blobbo got very excited. “Look, everyone, there’s a café over there! I’m so hungry I could yawn up a whole tray of Ogglecakes!”
Rocco said, “I hope they’ve got Ogglecakes.”
The Ogglebogs went in and sat round a table. Then, along came the baker.
“Presto, the baker here, how can I help you?”
Blobbo said, “Ogglecakes, please, Presto.”
Presto said, “We don’t have Ogglecakes here.”
“What? No Ogglecakes? I don’t like this holiday one bit,” said Twinko.
“Can we go back home, please, Rocco?” asked Coco.
Rocco said, “But we’ve only just got here!”
Then Presto said, “I’ve just baked some Igglecokes.”
“Igglecokes?” asked Twinko.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“I’m so hungry I don’t care what they are called,” said Blobbo, “Two Igglecokes each, please.”
Presto soon came back with a tray of Igglecokes. They looked a bit like Ogglecakes but with a squiggle of white jelly on top.
Coco bit into one and said, “Quite nice.”
Oddo bit into one and said, “Scrummy!”
Blobbo bit into one and said, “I thought I’d miss my Ogglecakes, but these Igglecokes are amazing!”
When they had finished munching, they decided to go to the beach. After all, they were on their holidays.
“Look!” said Rocco, “What are they?”
They were looking at the strangest animals they had ever seen. They were called Jumping Fish and lived on the beach. They were bright green, had very big heads and purple fins. The funny thing was that they had great big, long legs! They spent all day seeing which one could jump highest. But they kept falling into the sea.
The Ogglebog friends watched them for a long time and couldn’t stop laughing at them.
Soon they saw a beach hut selling bickets and spodes.
“What are they for?” asked Coco.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“That’s right, Beepo, bickets and spodes are for making sand castles,” said Blobbo.
“Let’s get some,” said Twinko.
“Yes, please!” said Coco.
Rocco bought some and said, “Look, you can get Ice-Lillies or Iggs-Cream and a lovely drink of Iggleberryade as well!”
The Ogglebog friends tried everything and it was all yummy, scrummy.
They had lots and lots of days at the beach where they had so much fun, making sand castles with their new bickets and spodes.
They loved seeing the beautiful pink sea and laughed so much at the silly Jumping Fish.
But all too soon, it was time to catch the rocket home.
The Ogglebog friends went up the silver ladder and into the rocket. The same smiling round, green Ogglebog in a pink uniform showed them where to sit.
“I miss planet Hollypop already,” said Coco.
“Me too,” said Oddo.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
Rocco said, “I know, Beepo, no-one liked planet Hollypop to begin with.”
“But we like it now,” replied Oddo.
“We do!” added Coco.
Rocco said, “I know we love our own planet Ogg but sometimes it can be fun to go to other places.”
Blobbo said, “I think it was the best holiday ever!”
Twinko said, “can we go back to planet Hollypop next year?”
“I miss those yummy, scrummy Igglecokes,” said Rocco.
Blobbo gave a great big blue smile and said, “Look what I got from Presto the baker.”
The Ogglebog friends were very happy when Blobbo opened an Igglebox.
“Look, everyone, lots and lots of delicious Igglecokes!” laughed Blobbo.
