The Ogglebogs Short Story & Audiobook Series: Episode 16 - Upside Down
Splish and Splosh come to visit the Ogglebogs and take everyone on a trip to the other side of the planet! What will the Ogglebog friends discover?
Upside Down
One morning, Rocco, Blobbo, Coco, Oddo, Beepo and Twinko were at the Oggle Café on Bubble Mountain. They had just finished munching their delicious Ogglecake breakfast.
Suddenly, Oddo said, "Look up there in the sky!"
Rocco said, "Blazing bananas, it looks like a carrot! A great big flying carrot!"
"It’s coming down to land," said Coco. Down came the carrot-shaped rocket.
It landed right at the bottom of Bubble Mountain.
"It’s our new friends Splish and Splosh again," said Twinko.
"Oh, I forgot their rocket was carrot-shaped! I wonder if they need more water," said Rocco.
"Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz," said Beepo.
"Good idea, Beepo. Let’s go and say hello," said Rocco.
"We can take them some Ogglecakes!" said Blobbo. They all set off down Bubble Mountain.
Soon they got to the carrot-shaped rocket. And there were their two little alien friends, Splish and Splosh.
"Oh , I do like their red trousers," said Coco.
“I like their red hats,” said Oddo. “I want one!”
“You speak their language, Twinko,” said Rocco. “Maybe you could ask them why they have landed here this time.”
Twinko went over to them and asked, “Plink, plank, plook, greep?”
Splosh said, “Flarp!”
Twinko asked, “Ploop, plank, foom?”
Splish said, “Plurp, ploon.”
“What did they say, Twinko?” asked Blobbo.
“They said ‘hello’,” answered Twinko.
“Is that all?” asked Rocco.
“Yep,” said Twinko.
Then Splish said, “Fargle, bloon.”
“Ah, Splish just said they are out of water again and need our help,” said Twinko.
Blobbo went off and soon came back with some clean custard buckets.
Then the Ogglebogs went up to the Treetaps to get more water for Splish and Splosh.
When they had filled up the rocket with water, Splish said, “Floom, flerp.”
“What did Splish say?” asked Rocco.
Twinko said, “They would like to take us on a little trip in the rocket to the other side of Planet Ogg.”
“Wow!” said Oddo.
“Wow!” said Coco.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“I’m a bit hungry,” said Blobbo.
“What a surprise, Blobbo,” said Rocco.
Rocco, Blobbo, Coco, Oddo, Beepo and Twinko climbed up into the carrot-shaped rocket. Soon, it was flying way up in the sky.
“I can see our houses down there,” said Blobbo.
“I can see the Oggle Café!” said Rocco.
The rocket flew for quite a while, way past anywhere the Ogglebogs knew.
Soon, they were on the other side of Planet Ogg. None of them had ever been there before.
Then Rocco suddenly said, “Look down there!”
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“Yes, Beepo. Everything looks upside down,” said Coco.
“That’s weird,” said Oddo.
Splosh said, “Plap, ploon.”
Twinko said, “Splosh is going to land the rocket now.”
The little, carrot-shaped rocket slowly and gently touched down.
When the Ogglebogs climbed out, they got the surprises of their lives.
Everything they saw was, indeed, upside down!
First of all, they saw some little houses that looked a bit like theirs. But these houses were upside down and the roofs were on the ground!
Then they saw some trees with their roots in the ground. They thought that was very funny. Where they came from, all the trees had roots sticking up towards the sky.
Then they saw some Mushmallows growing upside down.
Blobbo found some Blobweed growing nearby. It smelled very good…a bit like roses!
“That smelled so good, I nearly yawned it up!” said Blobbo. “Not like on our side of the planet, where Blobweed is stinky.”
Then Coco said, “Oh, dear. That looks like a Riplat!”
“Where?” asked Oddo.
“The Riplat is over there and it’s getting closer and closer!” said Coco, pointing.
Rocco laughed and said, “That’s not a Riplat! It’s just walking grass.”
“Grass doesn’t walk, silly Rocco,” said Twinko.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“That’s true,” said Rocco. “Maybe it is a Riplat. But it looks like a nice one and not a horrid one.”
And then it started to rain.
Now, where the Ogglebogs come from, the rain came down in tiny, square, pink drops. The raindrops made little popping sounds and puffs of pink smoke when they hit the ground.
But here, in this funny upside-down place, the rain fell up. Not down.
And, as the rain fell up, it tickled everyone and made them all laugh.
Soon the rain stopped. Blobbo smiled a great, big, blue smile and said, “Ogglecake time!”
Blobbo brought out a basket of Ogglecakes and passed them around.
Splish sniffed one.
Then Splosh sniffed one.
The little aliens’ eyes lit up and they started munching.
Splish said, “Foop, foop!”
Then Splosh said, “Foop, foop!”
Rocco laughed and said, “You don’t need to tell us what they said, Twinko. We can guess. They like the Ogglecakes!’
Then it was time to go back and they all climbed into the rocket.
Up it flew into the air.
Soon, they were all back at the bottom of Bubble Mountain again.
The Ogglebog friends waved as the carrot-shaped rocket took off.
Rocco said, “I think we will see Splish and Splosh again, now they’ve tasted our famous Ogglecakes!”
