The Ogglebogs Short Story & Audiobook Series: Episode 14 - What A Noise!
The Ogglebog friends are at their favourite place, the Oggle Café, when they all hear the 'horriblest, screechiest, bangiest' noise. What could it be?
What A Noise!
One fine morning, Rocco, Coco, Oddo, Beepo and Twinko were all sitting at their usual table at the Oggle Café on Bubble Mountain.
Pasto the Baker came to the table with a tray of their very favourite delicious Ogglecakes.
They all thought about how they couldn’t wait to start munching.
Rocco said, “I’m so hungry I could eat three Ogglecakes!”
“I’m only little,” said Coco, “but I could eat two!”
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“Yes, we had better wait for good old Blobbo,” said Rocco.
“Hope Blobbo gets here soon,” said Twinko. “My new tooth wants to have a bite of Ogglecake!”
“Thank you, Pasto,” said Oddo. “These look like very nice cakes.”
“I added some delicious plims from the secret plim orchard. They are the tastiest plims on the whole of Planet Ogg,” said Pasto.
“Can’t wait to try one!” said Oddo.
Suddenly, they all heard the very horriblest, screechiest, bangiest noise.
“What in blazing bananas is that?” asked Rocco.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“Yes,” said Twinko, “it sounds like someone accidentally tread on an Ogglecat’s tail.”
“More like two Ogglecats at once,” said Rocco.
Then Blobbo came into the café carrying something that looked, and sounded, very weird.
It was a giant, hollow stick with a little hammer on the end. The little hammer bashed down on Blobbo’s nose in time with the noise it made.
“Hello, everyone. What do you think of my Oggbanger?” asked Blobbo.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“Quite right, Beepo! It's like Ogglecats mixed with Oggledogs when you accidentally tread on all their tails,” said Rocco.
“I think it sounds great,” said Blobbo.
Suddenly, Blobbo started to play the Oggbanger again. The noise was so horrible that Pasto dropped the tray of Ogglecakes. Then the baker ran back to the kitchen for a lie down.
Rocco, Coco, Oddo, Beepo and Twinko started laughing.
“What’s so funny?” asked Blobbo.
“What’s so funny is the little hammer bashing your nose every time you play that horrible thing,” said Twinko.
“Well, that’s why they call them Oggbangers, silly!” said Blobbo.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz?” asked Beepo.
“Good question, Beepo,” said Blobbo. “They are made with Oggreeds from the Oggbog.”
“But why does the little hammer come down on your nose?” asked Twinko.
“It looks so funny,” said Oddo.
Then the others all laughed.
“It wouldn’t be a proper Oggbanger without the little hammer,” said Blobbo who was getting a bit cross.
“But your nose has gone a funny colour with all that nose-bashing,” said Coco.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“That’s a great idea, Beepo!” said Rocco. “We can all go down to the Oggbog and find something that sounds nice when you play it.”
“Well, I’d better have my morning Ogglecake first,” said Blobbo. “Maybe two.”
After they had all eaten up every last crumb of their Ogglecakes, they all set off down Bubble mountain.
Soon, they arrived at the edge of the stinky, smelly Oggbog.
Blobbo saw an Oggreed that looked just right.
“Follow me, everyone,” Blobbo cried.
But then Blobbo squelched into something messy and stinky.
“Oh, no! Pooh! Horrible,” yelled Blobbo. “Look at me! I’m stuck and I’ve dropped my Oggbanger in the stinky Oggbog!”
“Oh, dear! We had better go along to the Treetaps to wash,” said Rocco while pulling Blobbo out.
Now, you may remember that Treetaps are strange trees that have pipes running all the way up their sides. And right at the top of the trees there are taps. That’s right: taps right at their tops.
They all climbed up to the Treetap top. There, at the very top, were lots and lots of taps.
An Ogglebird was washing its socks. That’s right. Ogglebirds like to keep their feet warm with cosy, clean socks.
The Ogglebird was whistling a very happy tune.
But Blobbo looked sad.
“What’s wrong, Blobbo?” asked Twinko.
“First of all, I’m still hungry. Second of all, you all laughed at me. Third of all, I got stuck in the stinky Oggbog. And fourth of all, I dropped my lovely Oggbanger,” answered Blobbo.
“Well, it did make a horrible noise,” said Oddo.
“And it made your nose go a funny colour,” said Coco.
“I suppose it did,” said Blobbo. “But I wish I could make nice music like that Ogglebird.”
Just then, Beepo buzzed off.
“Now, let me run this tap, Blobbo,” said Rocco, pointing at one of the taps.
With one turn of the Treetap tap, water came out and washed Blobbo until there was no stinky smell left.
Then Beepo came buzzing back.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“Look, everyone! Beepo has made a little whistle out of Oggreed,” said Rocco. Beepo handed the Oggwhistle to Blobbo.
Blobbo started to play it. Even the Ogglebird looked surprised. That's Because the sound that Blobbo made with the Oggwhistle was just like an Ogglebird song.
“No more nose-bashing,” said Blobbo.
“And no more Ogglecat noises!” said Coco.
“Yippee! Let’s go back to the café for more Ogglecakes!” yelled Blobbo.
Blobbo was a very happy Ogglebog with an Oggwhistle.
And so were all the other Ogglebogs!
