The Ogglebogs Short Story & Audiobook Series: Episode 11 - Space Water
Twinko spots something unusual flying across the sky of planet Ogg. Should the Ogglebog friends investigate?
Space Water
Did you know night-time only lasts for ten minutes on Planet Ogg, then the sun comes out again?
Ogg is a funny, little planet, far, far away in outer space. Things are a bit different here, as you know.
Our Ogglebog friends Rocco, Blobbo, Coco, Oddo, Beepo and Twinko were all going up Bubble Mountain to the Oggle Café for their usual breakfast.
Oddo said, “I’m so hungry, I could even eat a whole mushmallow!”
Now, mushmallows are a cross between mushrooms and marshmallows.
On some days when you eat them, they make you whistle. On other days, they turn your tongue bright yellow and make your teeth orange!
Ogglebogs loved mushmallows. But most of all, Ogglebogs loved their delicious breakfast of Ogglecakes.
Blobbo said, “I’m so hungry, I could eat ten Ogglecakes!”
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“Yes, Beepo, they are everyone’s favourite,” said Rocco.
Suddenly, Twinko asked, “What’s that, up there?”
“Where?” asked Rocco.
“I can see it too!” said Oddo. High up in the sky, there was something that looked like a great, big carrot. It had a parachute coming out of the top and it was slowly coming down to land.
“Looks like a rocket from Planet Flurp,” said Coco.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“Definitely from Planet Flurp,” said Twinko.
“Blazing bananas! What is it doing here?” asked Rocco. The rocket’s engines didn’t sound quite right. They stopped and started, then finally stopped completely.
Soon, the rocket came down and landed gently at the bottom of Bubble Mountain.
“Come on, everyone! They may need our help,” said Rocco. The Ogglebog friends went back down Bubble Mountain as fast as they could.
When the friends got to the carrot-shaped rocket, they saw two little aliens sitting on the ground. The aliens were tiny little creatures with red trousers and red hats that looked a bit like upside-down trumpets.
At the side of the rocket was a long, blue ladder.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“Twinko speaks their language, Beepo?” asked Rocco. Beepo nodded.
Rocco said, “ Twinko, please ask them why they have landed here.”
Twinko went over to the aliens and asked, “Plip, plap, foop, greep?”
One of the little aliens said, “Plink, plank, plook!” Twinko asked, “Ploop, plank, foom?”
The other alien said, “Plurp, ploon.”
“What did they say, Twinko?” asked Blobbo.
Twinko said, “Their names are Splish and Splosh and their rocket has run out of water. If they don’t get water, their rocket can’t take off again.”
“That means they won’t be able to get home,” said Coco. “We have to help.”
Then Rocco asked, “But where on Ogg will we find water?”
“The Treetaps, of course. Silly Rocco!” said Oddo.
“Oh, yes. I’d forgotten about the Treetaps,” said Rocco.
Blobbo said, “We can use bath-custard buckets!”
“Great idea,” answered Rocco.
“That means we have to go to the Bucket Cave to get buckets,” said Coco.
“And that means we have to go through the Mushmallow Forest,” said Blobbo.
“And that means we might see some Riplats,” added Coco.
“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz,” said Beepo.
“Oh, that’s right, Beepo! Riplats sleep all day on Mewsdays,” said Rocco. “Off we go!”
They all set off and soon they were at the Bucket Cave. They went into the cave. There were many buckets hanging from the cave’s roof.
They grabbed the biggest buckets they could find and raced back to Splish and Splosh.
When they got there, Twinko said, “Plune, plam, plok.”
Splosh said, “Ploon, plam, plee.”
Twinko said, “I told them we would get water for them.”
The Ogglebog friends took their buckets and went as fast as they could to the biggest Treetap.
They all climbed up to the Treetap top. At the very top were lots and lots of taps.
It didn’t take them very long to fill the buckets with water. Soon they were back at the rocket.
One by one, the Ogglebogs climbed up the ladder and poured the water into a special water hole in the rocket.
Blobbo was last to climb the ladder with his bucket.
But Blobbo slipped! His bucket went spinning round and tipped water everywhere. The bucket landed upside down on Blobbo. It looked like a bucket hat.
Everyone laughed, even Splish and Splosh. Blobbo did look funny.
Then Splosh asked, “Ploo, pleep?”
Twinko said, “They have invited us all for a little trip in their rocket to say ‘thank you’!”
They got into the rocket and the engines started up. Soon they were flying high above all the places they knew so well.
They saw their funny-shaped little houses, the Mushmallow Forest and the Oggle Café.
“That reminds me…we haven’t had breakfast yet!” said Blobbo.
The rocket came down to land and the Ogglebogs all climbed out.
Splish and Splosh waved goodbye and the carrot-shaped rocket took off. Soon, it was just a tiny speck in the sky.
Rocco said, “You know, everyone, with all the excitement, I’d forgotten just how hungry I was!”
