Summary
A farmer gets his wagon stuck in the deep, squelchy sticky mud. How will he get free? Hercules And The Wagoner is a simple tale that teaches perseverance, self-reliance, and the importance of taking action. The story finishes with the moral “if you never try you will never know what you can achieve.” Themes of hardship and taking action are also present as the lazy farmer initially does nothing to help himself when his wagon gets stuck in the mud!  Aesop's fables are a collection of ancient tales credited to the famous storyteller, Aesop who is believed to have lived in Ancient Greece during the 6th century BCE. Fables are short stories that deliver a moral lesson or practical message usually through animals or mythical creatures acting on our human experiences. These stories have influenced literature across all ages and cultures.
